Thinking, Learning and Creativity (TLC) is a core subject for year 7 students. The TLC project is an innovation to Brentwood's year 7 Curriculum introduced this year. We have received a Government grant as part of the Leading Schools Fund to develop the project which may be used as a model for other schools. Construction of a specially designed, technology rich TLC centre will begin later this year.TLC

To best equip students to be effective members of the community we need to ensure that they have arrange of effective problem solving and thinking skills. They need to be technologically literate and to be able to work cooperatively with others. We want them to develop their creativity, be able to reflect on their own performance and to be confident learners. We also expect them to gain mastery of important skills. We believe that this new curriculum structure will assist us in achieving these goals.

Our aim is to provide a thematic based curriculum which will be engaging for students and which complies with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) Curriculum statement. VELS emphasises the need for students to be technologically literate, have an extensive repertoire of thinking and problem solving skills in addition to more traditional subject or discipline based learning. The subject TLC will combine studies in English, History, Geography and Information and Communication Technology for 10 periods per week. An interdisciplinary approach will enable students to examine themes in more detail and make links between subject disciplines. It also affords us additional scope for a structured approach to developing a more extensive repertoire of thinking skills and enhancing students' creativity. Students will be encouraged to become more independent learners.

We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or comments. Please set aside time to periodically scan through the TLC web pages to stay up to date with what is happening in our TLC classes.
