The Brentwood Secondary College Art Faculty offers a diverse and dynamic program for year 7 to year 12, covering most media. Classes in year 7 Art include Ceramics and Graphics, and middle school classes extend to offer studies in Visual arts, 3D studies, Multi Media, Arts Technology and Drama.
Overall there are 13 elective classes each term (out of 48 units offered) to years 8 to 10 for four periods a week. Four of these are semester length units.
On this basis we run VCE units 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Visual Communication Design, Studio Arts, Media and Theatre Studies.
For each class except year 7 a unit fee is charged to partially cover material costs.
We provide an excellent environment for learning and are continually reviewing courses to match our six basic program objectives.
- To meet he learning outcomes of the CSF2 and initiate innovative programs.
- To focus on student centered learning to create knowledge, skills or products in a collaborative/ cooperative environment aimed at fostering independent, self directed lifelong learners.
- To develop the intellectual and expressive potential of students through aural, spatial, kinaesthetic, interpersonal and visual experiences.
- To equip students to use and understand the arts forms as symbolic languages by:
- Developing skills, techniques and processes that form the structure for exploration and development of ideas as a basis for their personal expression.
- Developing abilities to perform or present arts works.
- Exploring how different social and cultural groups engage in and convey meaning through the arts.

To develop skills in arts criticism and aesthetics through describing, analysing, interpreting and evaluating their own and others' arts works.

To develop students' understanding that the arts evolve within particular social and cultural contexts by:
Developing understanding of how the arts reflect, construct, reinforce and challenge values in different cultures.
Studying the arts from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
